My wife's politics are simple really. She considers whether she would want to associate with the people that claim a particular point of view or political allegiance. I may have at one time or another, thought that was a rather naive approach, but I'm surprised at how often it simply works to identify the most destructive, naive and misbegotten political positions.
Today we get an excellent manifestation of the paradigm from the Los Angeles Times comments section on Tony Snow's obituary. What makes it all the more sickening is that the LA Times editorial policy reviews comments before they are posted, so stuff like this....
16. Because there obviously is no god, nor heaven and hell, I’ve always adhered to the idea that if you are saddned by the deaths of your friends and family, you should equally be gladdened by the deaths of people you hate. Tony Snow was a professional liar and willing member of the most notorious administration in this country’s history. I didn’t know him personally, but professionally he was a BS artist extraordinaire. This was the best cancer since Lee Atwater’s brain tumor. Submitted by: Shaun Mason 4:02 PM PDT, July 12, 2008
pretty much tells you everything you need to know about the kind of people who embrace the far-left's political agenda and the kind of people who made it past the last round of layoffs at the Times' editorial department.
They are a lynch mob, spiritual heirs of the Klu Klux Klan. Tony Snow's sin? Daring to contradict the left's shibboleths on a whole range of subjects. Daring to stand in opposition to their strong delusion. Rapists move to Vermont to take advantage of the liberal-left's indulgence of brutal child sex abuse with slap-on-the-hand legal penalties, but Tony Snow deserved death by cancer and his children merited orphanage, his wife, widowhood.
I bailed a young relative out of jail where he had been for three days on minor drug charges. He's been a model citizen ever since and no argument was more persuasive than the company he had to keep while incarcerated. He simply didn't want to be one of "those" people.
I'd recommend avoiding Obama rallies as well...
