Southwest Chicago Roots

The Instapundit links to a a story in the southwest suburban Chicago paper by Ray Hanania on the Rezko and Ata pay to play schemes that centered there. This subject has been tiptoed about, but Hanania makes this point:

These are the same people who pal around with some of the most extreme Arab activists and religious fanatics who give the terrorists in this country and the Middle East the will to act.
Some may recall that Bridgeview, Illinois is the site of a mosque that was taken over by radical Wahhabi Islamists.

(Chicago Tribune story, registration required, Feb. 2004 "Hardliners won battle for the soul of Islam". I remember reading it at the time. Part of a series called "Struggle for the Soul of Islam") The WSJ's Joel Mowbray back in 2006, and Powerline with more background. Several mosque elders were also officials of the Islamic Association for Palestine, a now defunct front to raise money for Hamas, which was cited in the Holy Land Foundation trial of last summer as an unindicted co-conspirator.

Couple this with Iraqi billionaire financier Nadhmi Auchi's relationship with Rezko and possible connection to Obama and it's even more disturbing.

Another unindicted co-conspirator is the Islamic Society of North America, which in 2006 invited the former leader of Iran Khatami to speak at its convention, here in Chicago where it's headquartered. Other prominent speakers at that same event included Bernardine Dohrn. No word on whether Rashid Khalidi was there, or the Rev. Wright. Or Barack Obama, though his friend Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. was there.

The most recent event at the Bridgeview mosque that made the news was the appearance of Rep. Keith Ellison, with an unfortunate choice of words.

UPDATE: Obama drops in the polls, and Northwestern rescinds the Rev. Wright's degree.ViaHotAir. Maybe they could toss Bernardine Dohrn off the Law School faculty too.Obama's lead vanishes in the national polls. RCP Blog. Is this a tipping point for Barack? WaPo.

UPDATE: What Obama wishes he could say, The Politico. Will he go after all the Clintons' scandals? This one is news to me:

The Obama side is frustrated with the news media for not carrying more of its argument. His operatives thought a Newsday story looking exhaustively at her legal career — including the revelation that as a young lawyer she attacked the credibility of a 12-year-old rape victim — would provoke a herd of other coverage. It did not happen.
It might be hard for her to use that "for the children" line again. But then we're talking Hillary Clinton. Lots of Dem shoes in the closet, waiting to be hauled out.

UPDATE: Scott Johnson, Powerline:

Obama himself had proclaimed the importance of his pastor to his life over the past twenty years in books and interviews. Both circumstantial and direct evidence demonstrated Obama's knowledge of Reverend Wright's sick and indefensible views.
Obama is not credible. The definitive indictment.omg Obama "Nixonian". Read it all.

More. Obama going on Letterman. ABC has the Top Ten. Somehow I don't think Obama's No. 4 will ever be an issue--it might have something to do with the RNC's suggested Nos. 4. and 5.
