Driving the Mojave desert between the Hoover Dam and Kingman, Arizona, we spied these brilliant fucshia-colored flowers at the side of the road. Prickly pear cactus beavertail cactus is blooming this time of year, as are a number of other varieties, providing surprising splotches of bright yellows and oranges and pinks in the arid desert landscape.
