The Kennedys

I'm watching Ted Kennedy reading a teleprompter.

This is an endorsement that actually matters. Obama's lame attempt to tie his campaign to Lincoln looked ridiculous, but this endorsement by all the living Kennedys with political influence is something any Democrat politician would kill for--it is an endowment of liberal mythology. Obama becomes the legitimate heir to John F Kennedy.

Think of it in terms of Ronald Reagan endorsing one of the current candidates. Pretty huge huh?

Of course, this is as much about the Kennedy's political interests as it is Obama's. With the Clintons again in power, Kennedy gets nothing but marching orders and irrelevancy. Obama is an investment of the future and Kennedy is buying a significant whack of shares.

As usual, the best endorsements have the synergy of an established brand and a damn good new product, and this one really works.

That sound of breaking glass is Bill Clinton throwing things...

Regardless of how this turns out, Obama is a huge winner. He is going toe-to-toe with the biggest political gangsters in modern American history and he's pulling it off with sangfroid and incredible discipline. If he actually had some solid experience, he would be unbeatable and that may well mean that there is a President Obama in our future---far future.

Others Blogging: Varifrank breaks his no-politics rule and expresses his admiration of Obama.

Addendum
: Between the Kennedy endorsement and the State of the Union address tonight, McCain's media gravy train has been derailed. Hmmm.

I am not a ruthless partisan, but I am (I trust) a thinking conservative. I thought JFK was an extremely attractive candidate in many ways, yet I never did really trust him. He was a politician first and foremost. Obama in my opinion is just a phony with out any identifiable outstanding characteristics.
He is not a good speaker, I don't care how many times I hear that. He lacks authenticity and genuine substance in his words. He comes across as a recording, giving forth sound but lacking life. He only inspires those who would follow a shadow if they thought it was a Party shadow, or those who are so devoid of reality they are desperate for anyone who will give them the snow job they need for some solace.

Right. I relish the idea of a Romney/Obama debate on Iraq or healthcare or abortion or judges or the economy or how to tie a shoelace. B.O.'s a smart cookie but only progresses because the Dem Party is about appearance and identity.
