God's Law

Andy McCarthy on Taliban Huck:

Huckabee is made to order for the Left: his rhetoric embodies their heretofore lunatic indictment that we're no better that what we're fighting against. Let's "amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards"? Who needs to spin when the script speaks for itself? Where has Huck been for the last seven years? Does he not get that our enemies — the people who want to end our way of life — believe they are simply imposing God's standards?

While Jihad Joe and Taliban Huck have the same slogan, they answer to different gods - and that's the problem for the rest of us, including those on the left seeking to esconch their god, Gaia, into our country's pantheon. The only religion I want from the Constitution is to be free to exercise mine as I please and for you to do likewise.

I don't think Huck crossed a line here. I wouldn't agree with writing God into the Constitution or other laws, but I don't mind people citing their religious beliefs as reasons for wanting something such as an Amendment to address gay marriage.

I sort of like tolerating free expression, even for political candidates.

I do prefer that most discussions of public policy are best conducted by appeals to evidence and to reason, but I don't think the best response to radical Islam is to condemn public expressions of Christian faith.

Now I wish I would have proofread.

Michael,

I don't have a problem with political discourse nor did I think I was disparaging public expressions of Christian faith.

My intent was to condemn the imposition of one religion over another, whether by the sword or fiat.

Oh, good. I'm with you on that.
