No Accountability

What do you think would happen to you if you had three accidents in two years, a DUI and a charge of cocaine possession?

Yeah--it would not be pretty.

Lindsay Lohan however, is not you. I'd say the chances of her going to jail are virtually nil--it might even enhance her career. Welcome to the world of elite Democrats.

Mick,

You must have the party bliders buckled on really tight today if you can't seen the irony in this post. Remember...you support the convicted drunk driver and recovering drug addict who is currently serving as our president.

Mick Stockinger:

Hmmm. Been reading the Bushwhacker sites again?

The cocaine allegation was made in J.H. Thompson's book "Fortunate Son" which was widely criticized as a political hatchet job and a fantasy.

Thompson himself was discredited for "making stuff up"--not by Fox News, but by Jacob Weisberg of Slate magazine

On Tuesday Slate's Jacob Weisberg eviscerated the biography. "Should we believe this story? I don't think so," Weisberg writes. "Anyone with a nose for cooked quotes should be able to detect the distinct odor of journalistic jambalaya coming from Hatfield's book."

Weisberg's most damaging allegation is that Hatfield described one source as spitting tobacco juice into a Styrofoam cup during their interview, which took place over the phone, but later acknowledged he made that detail up to give cover to his source. "I might have put that in to protect him," Hatfield reportedly told Weisberg. "He doesn't chew tobacco -- I had to help him out a bit."

After being widely available to the media on Monday, Hatfield clammed up on Tuesday, not returning repeated phone calls to Salon News.

Much has been made of his drunk driving arrest--30 years ago, but little has been said about public attitudes towards drunk driving at the time. Before the early 1980s, drunk driving was regarded as a "folk crime" (Madd in the 1990s, Marshall and Oleson). Alcohol not only had no stigma, it was actively promoted without restriction in all advertising venues. It was only in the late 1980s and 1990s that the push back against alcohol advertising and drunk driving.

What could Lindsay Lohan's excuse possibly be? She didn't know drunk driving was a no-no?

I was in highschool in the seventies and I recall drunk driving as routine, in fact, to my chagrin, I rode with friends who were driving drunk and did nothing at the time.

It is pathetic to excuse the self-indulgence of Hollywood Democrats with false and distorted charges. Bush didn't go to some luxury rehab joint to get the media off his back--he found Christ and changed his life. Its called accountability--something the kids on the left have no concept of.

Mick,

Why does it always have to be an issue of right vs. left with you. Do you really think self indulgent Hollywood types wouldn't get out of legal problems if it weren't for the Democrats? There are more than a few monied Republicans who easily buy themselves out of trouble too.

For the record I was mocking you because you think this is a partisan issue...I wasn't trying to "excuse the self-indulgence of Hollywood Democrats with false and distorted charges."

If it makes you feel any better I'll admit that I don't really know if GWB was a drug addict or not. That doesn't change the fact that your making this a partisan issue is simply absurd.

Mick Stockinger:

I guess you must not have been paying attention, but the country is divided in such a fundamental way that literally everything is a partisan issue.

Democrats and Republicans can't even agree on basic facts or definitions. Take "fairness" for example. For Democrats, fairness is the same outcome for everyone. For Republicans, fairness is the same opportunity for everyone.

Don't shoot the messenger.
