Sing the Star Spangled Banner in San Francisco and you could lose a few teeth.
A singing group from Yale known as the Bakers' Dozen on tour in San Francisco over New Year's Eve was jumped after a party and beaten up pretty badly. The party, which was held at the home of a retired SFPD officer, took a bad turn when two party attendees (who are sons of a prominent local pediatrician) took offense at the group's conservative attire and their singing of The Star Spangled Banner, called them derogatory names relating to their sexual orientation, and then said there'd be a fight afterwards. The singing group is upset that the SFPD doesn't appear to be moving very quickly on the case.
This wasn't just a little pushing and shoving; Sharyar Aziz had his jaw broken in two places and had to be flown to New York for reconstructive surgery, which includes two permanent titanium plates.
The trouble started during the singing of the anthem after which members of the group were taunted--in San Francisco no less--for being fags. Apparently annoyed at the attention members of the group were getting, reinforcements were called in by cell phone and after the party, each member of the group was attacked by 5 to 6 assailants
...when police arrived, they detained four of the attackers who were identified by members of The Baker's Dozen, but officers did not make an arrest. And a full week later, they still haven't made an arrest.Whitney Leigh, Gonzalez & Leigh Law Firm: "That doesn't seem to comport with traditional police practices and as a result, at least at this point, there's several violent youths or young men, actually, who are out on the street and shouldn't be."
Police investigators didn't even bother to photograph the injuries to The Baker's Dozen. The couple who held the party that night took pictures.
Leanna Dawydiak: "Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems as a citizen in San Francisco that something should be done a little more than has been."
Police spokesman Neville Gittens defends the handling of the case.
Neville Gittens, SFPD Spokesman: "What you want to do is you want to have a complete, thorough investigation. So the officers responded, the fight was abated and now an investigation is ongoing."
The couple who hosted the party wonder whether the authorities are moving slowly because of the family involved. Rich Aicardi and two of his brothers who were involved in the incident are the sons of prominent San Francisco pediatrician Eileen Aicardi.
The I-Team met with Eileen Aicardi and her sons last night. They invited us into their home in the shadow of Coit Tower, but later declined to be interviewed. Rich Aicardi did not want to have his picture taken. .
One can't help but draw comparisons with the Duke rape case--liberals appear to either be lynching people or protecting their own, all the while complaining about how Bush doesn't respect the law.
Gavin Newsome has a real problem on his hands.
