One Reason I Like Romney So Much

The Boston Herald recorded part of MA Gov. Romney's news conference and captured the following exchange from a rival Boston Globe reporter asking a long-winded, meandering question about toll roads, during which Romney interrupts to ask "Do you have a point of view on this?"

The annoyed Globe reported replied, "L'etat, c'est moi" "I represent the people, Governor."

To which Romney retorted, "No, I represent the people, You represent the Media."

The guy has a gift. There are two things you should take away from this exchange, because they are typical Romney--he has tremendous situational awareness and a marvelous grasp of how all the pieces fit together. Then there is his famous charm. A lot of politicians, if they could have even dealt with the prosecutorial manner of the reporter, would have responded in a condescending manner. Instead, Romney has the whole room laughing with him and still manages to put Lous XVI in his place.

Redstate has a post up on this, and I found it uproariously funny to read this in the commentary.

Its always entertaining to see conservatives like Romney put these charlatans in their place. I am glad there is somebody to remind these reporters who they are, and what they really represent.

If you don't read Redstate regularly, you might not get the joke--the Redstate knock on Romney is that he isn't a conservative, or he's a faux-conservative, which is nonsense. Romney's not a reactionary, but he's definitely conservative. There simply is no such thing as a faithful Mormon who is also politically "liberal"--its an oxymoron.

Apparently, all is forgiven at Redstate.

The leaders who sign my temple recommend, and those of thousands of others, seem to differ.

You're usually smarter than this.

Mick:

You are usually more honest than this.
