Lots of predictable complaints about the Red America blog on the Washington Post website from the left, most of it rather silly (I only say "most-of-it" because possibly, somewhere, some lefty blogger has made a good argument against the blogs appearance on the WaPo site...).
Their is considerable humor in the notion of the left reminding the media of its journalistic ethics and duties--whatever the hell those are. A major objection to Domenech is the observation that he is not a journalist, which seems a superflous qualification for an opinion column writer. The other main objection is that he apparently has opinions--he thinks Coretta Scott King was a communist. I don't know whether she was or not, but it was certainly a common accusation against Dr. King at very least. The third is that he is a plagarizer. Evidence is thin at best, but let's say that he is--plagarizers can't have opinions?
None of this is a reason to disqualify Domenech, yet I think the left has good reason to be upset--why can't they just say what's on their minds instead of making stuff up? For a little context, let's consider how conservatives might feel at having Ted Rall or some other lefty firebreather endowed with prominent space in a major newspaper. We're used to it of course, but I suspect most conservatives would see it as a provocation.
Not that it would change anything--the Post is a private entity and while its appropriate to complain, they are going to do what is in the best interest of the paper. The left should consider something the right has been doing for a long-time...a boycott. Since 70% of the country is "progressive", hates Bush, hates the war and only lost the election because of black ops machinations at Diebold and other manufacturers of paperless voting machines--it should be a simple matter to put a big hurt on the Washington Post.
Use the netroots--put the Post out of business for their affront of publishing a wing-nut point of view...
